The Awakening Youth of FUMC La Porte
We are on a journey of knowing Jesus more together.
1 Timothy 4:12 (NIV)
“Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers
in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.”
We meet every Sunday evening from 4:00pm- 6:00pm. During our gatherings, we have a time of
fellowship through games, prayer, worship, and a lesson. Snacks are provided at the end of every
service. Every lesson has a practical application for the youth to engage in throughout the week.
Charles Graves, the Youth Pastor, offers a weekly discipleship training program for the youth to
participate in. The program consists of daily devotional readings from Jesus Calling by Sarah
Young, going through weekly Time with Jesus cards, and keeping a prayer journal. Anyone in
5th- 12th grade is welcome to attend. Groups will be split by age for some discussions to give
them an opportunity for age appropriate discussions.
Volunteer and mission opportunities- Youth are encouraged to serve throughout the year for
many activities. There are slots available for volunteers during Vacation Bible School, Trunk or
Treat, the Easter Egg Hunt, and misc. events.
The youth go on an annual spring break mission trip the first week of April. There are also
mission opportunities during the summer with either a local mission trip or a trip to another
destination.
Field trips, lock-ins, retreats, camp are all part of the youth ministry experience. You can find out
when these activities are by calling, texting, or emailing the Youth Minister, Charles Graves. His
phone number is 254-652-2746 and his email is fumcyouthminister@gmail.com
Mission of the Awakening Youth: We are on a journey of knowing Jesus more together. God, the
same God Who formed and fashioned the galaxies and Who keeps the earth in orbit around the
sun, is a relational and loving Father Who desires an up close and personal relationship with
everyone. As a youth group, we are developing sustainable spiritual habits like praying to Jesus
and reading Scripture on a daily basis. We want to experience the eternal life that He bought for
us through His death on the cross. This eternal life begins right now and lasts forever. Jesus
teaches us in John 17:3 that eternal life means to know the only true God and to know Jesus
Christ. Therefore, eternal life is just as much a present experience with the Lord that we get to
enjoy right now as it is a future hope we have to look forward to. So, as a youth group, we are
taking steps of faith to know the only true God and His Son, Jesus Christ more and more- not just
when we gather together on a Sunday evening, but throughout the week in both the mundane and
exciting times of life. God created us to know and experience Him through it all, so that’s
exactly what we want too! Right now, we are in the process of going through the Jesus Calling
Devotional book by Sarah Young every day. You can order one for $9 on Amazon.
